Wed, 5/30 - Black Box Revelation - Double Door
Saw them open for Meat Puppets and liked them. Enough to go back to see them headline. If you like the Black Keys you might like BBR.

Thur, 5/31 – Black Belles – Empty Bottle
They’re like witches with guitars. Sounds cool.

The official summer concert season officially kicks off in my book on June 1... take a look at the choices.

Fri, 6/1 – Le Butcherettes – SubT
Mexican garage rock fronted by a girl in a bloody apron. See you there, Teri GenderBender.

Fri, 6/1 – The Cult – Congress
I dig these guys, but Teri and Le Butcherettes win out tonight. And the Congress blows.

Fri, 6/1 - Grafitti6 - Schubas
Interesting, but they picked the wrong night to just be interesting.

Fri, 6/1 - Los Lobos - Park West
Solid musicians, great live show, can't go wrong... except for scheduling when I have a conflict.

Fri, 6/1 - Black Belles - Do Division Fest
If you missed them at Empty Bottle, catch them at DDF.

Fri, 6/1 - Sons of the New Amish - J Reilly's (Lombard)
Friends of mine, even though they won't admit it. They're getting pretty good, but until they start wearing bloody aprons I'll be in Teri's corner.

Sat, 6/2 – Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s – Lincoln Hall
Saw them open for somebody and they were decent. But looks like I'll be at Bottom Lounge.

Sat, 6/2 – Battles – Bottom Lounge
Saw them at Pitchfork two years ago and they were one of my faves. Missed them last year due to a conflict, but I'll be at there tonight.

Sat, 6/2 - Le Butcherettes - Do Division Fest
If you missed them at SubT, catch them at DDF

Sun, 6/3 - Cory Chisel - Do Division Fest
I think I was supposed to see him last year and got distracted, but if I remember correctly the review were good.

Sun, 6/3 - Antlers - Do Division Fest
Cry-dancing anyone?

Fri, 6/8 - J Roddy Walston and the Business - Ribfest
Missed his Double Door show, so here's my chance to catch him. Supposed to be a great live show.

Fri, 6/8 - The Silent Comedy - Schubas
A friend recommended them - opening for the Parlotones. Lineup has a lot of potential. Late show, could be the second game of a double header.

Sun, 6/10 - Sarah & the Tall Boys - Ribfest
Caught them at Fitzgerald's American Music Fest last summer and been meaning to check them out again. Here's my chance.

Sun, 6/10 - Gold Motel - Ribfest
Good old-fashioned pure pop goodness with a female lead vocal. Not going to win any awards, but fun.

Sun, 6/10 - Heartless Bastards - Ribfest
I love Erika, the band and the new record. But the same night as Dandy Warhols. Argh. TBD.

Sun, 6/10 – Dandy Warhols - Metro
They can be annoying but they hook me like a hungry catfish.

Mon, 6/11 – Duke Spirit – Lincoln Hall
Fuck yes. Try to keep me away from Liela. I dare you.

Fri, 6/15 – Dale Watson – Martyrs
Real country. But I might give the edge to TOC

Fri, 6/15 – The Old Ceremony - Schubas
Not intimately familiar with them, but like what I'm hearing. Might have to do it up.

Fri, 6/15 - Walk The Moon - Lincoln Hall
Saw them open for Fitz and did a nice job, but they take third place tonight.

Sat, 6/16 – John Hammond – Old Town School
This guy is the real deal. I forgot how good he was until I saw him last year again. Kind of like gummy bears.

Sat, 6/16 – Moonface – Lincoln Hall
Well, crap, Spencer... the same night as Hammond. Game time decision.

Sun, 6/17 – Cloud Cult – Lincoln Hall
Perhaps... need more research.

Tues, 6/19 – Laura Marling – Aethenium Theatre
Sweet stuff. Mellow, but might worth it to chill for a night. Songwriting is stellar.

Tues, 6/19 – Theresa Andersson - Schubas
From New Orleans. Instant cred. Decent tunes. Same night as Marling... crap.

Fri, 6/22 – Ruthie Foster – SPACE
Heck yes. I love Ruthie. Killer performance and beautiful person.

Fri, 6/22 – Dinosaur Jr. – SubT
Serious? Same night as Ruthie? Make it a two-fer tonight. I'll be busting ass from Evanston to get here.

Fri, 6/22 – Keane – Vic
Sorry, my night is booked.

Thur, 6/28 & Fri, 6/29 – Ministry – Vic
Maybe. Could be very good. Or very disappointing.

Fri, 6/29 – Detroit Cobras – Empty Bottle
Still holding that lame set you did at Bash on Wabash against you. But maybe this will be the night you get a second chance.

Fri-Sun, 6/29-7/3 - Fitzgerald's American Music Fest
Lineup TBA, but always something worth checking out.

Sat, 7/7 – The Sadies – Schubas
Time to check them out. Schubas makes the decision easy.

Sat, 7/7 - He's My Brother, She's My Sister - West Fest
Wonder if I'll be sick of them by then... probably not. Hope I can see the Sadies as well.

Mon, 7/9 - Blitzen Trapper - Lincoln Hall
Could be cool.. can't beat the venue. Put me down as a maybe.

Mon, 7/9 - The Sadies - Millennium Park
In case I don't make the Schubas show... back up plan.

Fri, 7/13 to Sun, 7/15 – Pitchfork Music Fest – Union Park, Chicago
Line up is a little disappointing. Maybe. Or perhaps I'm just clueless. But I dig the vibe and always find something new so I have my three-day and will see you there.

Mon, 7/16 - Charles Bradley - Millennium Park
His Metro show disappointed, but perhaps a free outdoor show with lowered expectations will deliver.

Wed, 7/18 - These United States - Schubas
Missed them last time through town. Won't miss them this time.

Fri, 7/20 - Disappears - Empty Bottle
Saw them open for Arctic Monkeys and would check them out again. EB could be the place.

Sat, 7/21 - Gomez - Shefield Garden Walk
Essentially more of a drunk fest than a garden walk, but might be worth enduring for Gomez.

Thur, 8/2 – Boston – The Venue
Original members? Playing a casino? Sad, but intriguing...

Fri, 8/3 to Sun, 8/5 – Lollapalooza – Grant Park, Chicago
Thought about it, but can't justify the price to stand in a field with 429,000 other people and drink $5 waters.

Tue, 8/7 - Garbage - Metro
I want to go. It sold out in 10 seconds and I wasn't lucky. Who has an extra?

Thur, 8/9 - Toadies - House of Blues
I tend to avoid HOB, but it's time for a Toadies fix.

Sat, 8/18 - Brian Jonestown Massacre - Metro
A wheels off band who will still play some killer music even if they don't have a meltdown on stage.

Thur, 8/23 - Lovehammers - Beat Kitchen
I'm spoiled and have been skipping HOB and Metro Hammerfest shows... this is what I've been waiting for... a small, dark, dirty venue. I'm there.

Fri, 8/31 to Sun, 9/2 – North Coast Fest – Union Park, Chicago
Maybe... depends on the line up.

Sat/Sun, 9/15-16 - Riot Fest - Humboldt Park
Oh, hell yes. And even better, got my early bird discount $22 2-day pass. Serious? Iggy & the Stooges, Elvis Costello, Gogol Bordello, Descendents, Gaslight Anthem, Alkaline Trio, GWAR, Rev. Horton Heat, Fishbone, Screaming Females.... wow.

Sat, 9/15 - Rush - United Center
I've rediscovered these guys and not sure why I ever left them. Might have to pull the trigger on this show. I did but now it conflicts with Riot Fest. I'll likely be selling some decent seats face value if anyone is interested.

Wed, 9/19 – Madonna – United Center
Why not?
